iSync Plugin for Nokia 6120 Classic

Hi again,

Work has just ported all of us employees over to Telstra, and supplied a NextG SIM card so I picked myself up a Nokia 6120 Classic to assist in some signal strength issues in my home office, and it’s worked brilliantly.

The only thing I didn’t count on is Nokia not having an iSync plugin for the phone (they seem to have one for every other device).

So I’ve put one together with some info from the web (and looking inside the available Nokia plugins) and now have it working successfully over Bluetooth. It has full iCal & Address Book (with photos) support, and a nice pic of the phone for the iSync panel.

To Install:
1. Download (via the link below) & unzip the file.
2. Open Finder, and browse to Macintosh HD/Library/PhonePlugins.
3. Copy the “Nokia-6120.phoneplugin” into this folder.

If the PhonePlugins folder doesn’t exist, create it and then do step 3.

Once done, use the Bluetooth “Bluetooth Setup Assistant” and add your phone, it should be detected and work as expected from then on.

Have fun!

Thanks,
Shane.

  1. Also seems to work with the Nokia 2161 – all you need to do is change all the references from 2160 to 2161 and change the usb ID to 0x0421/0x0088

  2. Adam,There should be no problems using this under Leopard (I am using it without issue). What kind of errors are you experiencing? What you could try is in iSync, resetting the device or removing the device and re-adding it.Regards,Shane.

  3. Cheers, mate. Works pretty good. πŸ™‚ however, for some reason it doesn’t sync events created on the phone, even though I chose a specific calendar for it under iSync prefs. When I try to sync, the phone indicates it’s sending the new event, but the new event isn’t created on iCal. Any idea what’s causing it?I’m using the newest iMac, with Mac OS 10.5.1

  5. Hi mate,Thanks for this, do you know if it works in USB?I have an ibookG4, not a macbook, so I don’t have bluetooth.Cheers,JΓ©rΓ΄me.

  6. Jerome,I hadn’t tested it under USB, but after a quick check through the code I found the Model ID was incorrect, so have updated this. I checked USB under Leopard but got an error in the log with an Apple CDC driver not loading – quick research in Google seems to state this is a Leopard problem so USB may work for you.I’ve uploaded driver version 1.1 with the Model ID fix – click on the download link to get it, and let me know if it works via USB.Thanks,Shane.

  13. Hi Thanks – I was really please when I found this as it was so disapointing about the phone not working with macs – – but it is not working – I have only 10.3.9 and no bluetooth hardware on my home computer – so I put the plugin file where you suggested and to do that had to make a phone plugin folder – attached the usb cable to the phone opened isych and it says ‘no devices found’ any suggestions would be appreciated.

[…] So everything is supposed ot be easy with a Mac.Β  Everything is supposed to just “work”.Β  Well it’s not always that case.Β  If you’ve ever tried to synchronise your contacts with your phone on a Mac, you’ve probably run into the fact that it aint always easy.Β  My phone broke recently (it didn’t just “work” either), so when I got a loaner until the new one arrived, I needed to get my contacts onto it.Β  I was loaned a Nokia 6120 Classic.Β  This solved my syncing problems.
